Service Description

Tracking Connection is hosting Nate Harvey for a weekend-long wildlife tracking workshop and certification based in Jeffersonville, Vermont (locations within a 30-40 min drive). What is a track and sign certification? A 2-day field workshop that offers a rich learning opportunity for trackers of any experience level and rewards skilled trackers with an internationally-recognized certification. Don't be scared away by the "certification" aspect- beginning trackers can learn a ton from the experience and need not concern themselves with the score. The 2-day certification runs just like a weekend workshop, but participants will be asked to make an individual interpretation of each set of track and sign questions in an area (who made this track? what foot is this? what direction is the animal moving?) before discussing the answers as a group- and reviewing/comparing every option that was suggested. What really sets certifications (or "evals") apart is that they're taught by the top trackers in the country. You can read more about the history of tracking evals and FAQs at "The important thing to understand about the tracker evaluations is that it is not about how good you are as an individual. It is a critical peer-review process that develops the skills and expertise of all trackers who participate." -Louis Liebenberg, originator of the tracker evaluation system in South Africa Details: -Program runs from approx. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday -Exact meeting location will be decided based on tracking conditions and communicated to participants by Friday afternoon, March 11 -Participants are responsible for their own lodging, meals, and all gear they need for the field -We typically don't travel huge walking distances during a certification workshop (think a few miles at most), but we will be 100% outdoors and often on uneven terrain to access animal track and sign -CARPOOLING may be required due to parking limitations at some of our field sites. This will be carefully planned to minimize shared travel time in light of COVID. -Please see the full terms and conditions (linked in registration form) for our program COVID policy and guidelines. Contact Sophie before registering if you have any concerns or questions.
